Game of Thrones Creators Sign a Whopping $200 Million Deal with Netflix

Netflix has beaten it’s rivals Amazon and Disney in the race to acquire the services of David Benioff and Dan Weiss. According to the media reports, the duo, who previously adapted Game of Thrones for TV, have signed a multi-year deal worth $200 million with the streaming giant.

The two will be bidding farewell to HBO and now creating new content for Netflix. According to the deal signed, the two will be working on new films as well as new Netflix original series at their new home.

Netflix Welcomes David Benioff and Dan Weiss

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos welcomed the duo in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

The newly signed duo thanked everyone at HBO. They also expressed their excitement for their new venture.

Their joint statement reads:

“We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home. Over the past few months we’ve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber.

We remember the same shots from the same ‘80s movies; we love the same books; we’re excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honored they invited us to join them.”

According to available details, the Game of Thrones’ creators had been in talks with Amazon, Disney and Netflix, with the later eventually emerging as the winner for acquiring their services.

Amazon reportedly led the race to sign these two until July, but an improved offer from Netflix ensured that they changed their minds.

According to a source, Benioff and Weiss were eyeing a deal around $200 million as they were keen to beat the $150 million deal signed by Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan. The Westworld duo had signed a pact worth $150 million with Amazon in April this year.

The last season of Game of Thrones wasn’t as much loved by viewers as the first 7 seasons. Nonetheless, the show still won a bunch of Emmys recently. We can’t wait to see what David Benioff and Dan Weiss have in store for us.
