Winters are usually when we bulk up on all the high fat foods we consume, from dry fruits to winter treats like Rabri and Gajjar ka Halwa.

For those who are trying to eat healthy or lose weight this time of the year, it can be a challenge. But there’s good news. winters seem to have the perfect counterpart to high fat intake in the form of nature’s candy fruit – grapefruit.

Winter fruits mostly include citrus fruits be it grapefruit, oranges and even kiwi. Apples and bananas don’t really count because they’re flown in all the year round from the temperate and tropic regions.

But since our focus is on weight loss, we will focus on the benefits of grapefruit, which can work best for you this time of the year. However, its a good rule of thumb to consult your physician before including this citrus fruit in your daily diet.

Grapefruit is Good for Weight Loss

For weight loss though, grapefruit works the best. These citrus goods are available as early as November. The rule of thumb here is that the bitter stuff comes in first, and then moving on to the sweeter fruits. Grapefruit isn’t actually bitter though, just its skin. If the fruit is cut in half and just the pulp is consumed, it tastes mildly sweet with a tangy kick.

That Winter Glow

While its a common theory that lemons go well with diets, cleanses and weight loss, the truth is that grapefruit actually works better.

Not only does the citrus help cut fat but grapefruit, in comparison to lemons, contain more antioxidants. These are the bio-compounds that boost your metabolism and give you glowing skin. It’s packed with vitamins A and C. which are also known for doing wonders for the skin, nails and hair.

An Alternative to Hearty Meals

While hearty meals bring comfort in winters they’re not doing your heart any favors.

The high fat intake means that high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol is not too far behind.

Grapefruit however, has next to no calories while being packed with nutritional value. It actually helps control blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.

Brain Food

Other than that, fruits do have fiber but grapefruit, like bananas, have potassium which will keep your mind sharp.

Grapefruits are 91 percent water and while people don’t feel the need to consume water as much in winters, you still have to stay hydrated. Foods like grapefruit and soups keep you covered in this respect.

Of course if you’re still not into grapefruit despite it being the best citrus fruit there is, there are still limes, oranges and kiwi.
