Maula Jutt - The Legend of Maula Jatt

After over a year of legal troubles, The Legend of Maula Jatt might finally be home free. The original producer of the Punjabi classic, Maula Jutt has withdrawn all lawsuits against the reboot.

According to Entertainment.pk, Sarwar Bhatti and the makers of The Legend of Maula Jatt have finally reached an agreement. In fact, they seem to be on pretty good terms now. Bhatti said;

“Ammara Hikmat and Bilal Lashari are like my children. Someone misguided them however all kids tend to make mistakes and therefore I am willing to put everything behind me.”

Sarwar Bhatti seems to be taking one for the film fraternity and revival of Pakistani cinema.

“I am doing this for their welfare, for the revival of cinema and for giving the much needed boast to Pakistan film industry. I will no longer be a hurdle in the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt. Ammara Hikmat and Bilal Lashari can release their film on Eid-ul-Fitr or on any date they would like to release the film. I will support them.”

How did they resolve the dispute?

Turns out Bilal Lashari’s father Kamran Lashari and some mutual friends were the peacemakers in this dispute.

The movie’s release has been delayed for over a year now amid legal troubles. Looks like it might now finally hit theaters.

According to EPK, the film’s producer Ammara Hikmat informed her friends that The Legend of Maula Jatt release date is set for this Eid-ul-Fitr. There is no official confirmation yet.

The Legend of Maula Jatt Lawsuits

The reboot of the Punjabi cult classic was slapped with lawsuits from the very beginning. When Bilal Lashari announced he was making a reboot of the original film in 2013, the original producer of Maula Jutt claimed a violation of copyrights.

Later Bilal Lashari asserted that his film was just based on the character of Maula Jatt.

In 2017 Sarwat Bhatti, the producer of the original Maula Jatt and CEO of Bahoo,  filed a lawsuit against Bilal Lashari and Ammara Hikmat for copyright infringement.

Whether the film was just based on characters from the original or a reboot, in either case seeking copyrights is necessary.

The Lahore High Court even sent the filmmakers a legal notice for releasing the trailer despite court directives not to do do.

Amid the legal battle, Sarwar Bhatti’s ownership of the original film’s creative rights was even disputed.
