Gully Boy Drops Out of the Oscars 2020

The film fell short for the final list

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy was one of the most loved films of 2019. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy instantly gained positive critical appraisal and was even selected as India’s official entry in the ‘Best Foreign Language Film‘ category for the Oscars 2020.

Ever since the news broke, fans were excited and have been hoping that their ultimate favourite movie wins the Oscar. Delighted by the announcement, Ranveer, Alia and Excel Entertainment (The production and distribution company) also took to their social media and thanked the people who made the film’s success possible.

However, things did not go too well and it seems that Gully Boy has failed to impress The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Films shortlisted for the 92nd Academy Awards in nine categories have been announced. The list includes Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effects.

It is unfortunate that Gully Boy has failed to make it to the list. According to the Oscars shortlist, it is no longer a part of the race as it doesn’t make it on the list of the 10 selected films. Films like The Painted Bird (Czech Republic), Truth and Justice (Estona), Les Misérables (France), Atlantics (Senegal) and others were in the list of the International Feature Film category.

The Oscars 2020 will be held on February 9th in Los Angeles.
