Legendary Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty, known for his iconic roles in Bollywood, was admitted to the emergency unit of Apollo Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday, following complaints of feeling unwell.
The hospital issued a medical bulletin stating that Chakraborty had been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident, commonly known as a stroke. However, reassuring news came from his elder son, Mimoh, who stated that the star is “100% fine” and that the hospitalization was for a routine check-up.
According to the statement released by Apollo Hospital, Chakraborty, aged 73, was brought in with complaints of weakness in his right upper and lower limbs.
Following necessary laboratory and radiology investigations, including an MRI of the brain, he was diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident. The statement added that he is currently fully conscious, well-oriented, and is on a soft diet.
A team of doctors, including neuro-physicians, cardiologists, and gastroenterologists, is further evaluating his condition.
Mithun Chakraborty has been a prominent figure in the Indian film industry since 1976, with numerous acclaimed roles to his name. His contributions to cinema have earned him prestigious accolades, including the National Award.
Renowned for his performances in cult classics such as Disco Dancer, Jung, Prem Pratigyaa, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, and Mard, Chakraborty’s influence on Bollywood is undeniable.
Recently honored as one of the Padma Bhushan Awardees for 2024, Mithun expressed his gratitude through his son Namashi’s social media account.
He conveyed his joy at receiving such a prestigious honor and dedicated it to his fans both in India and across the globe, thanking them for their unwavering love and support throughout his career.
This health scare follows the loss of Mithun’s mother, Santirani Chakraborty, in July 2023 due to geriatric issues. Previously, his father, Basantokumar Chakraborty, passed away in April 2020 at the age of 95 due to kidney failure.
