Indian Occupied Kashmir to Host Miss World Beauty Pageant This Year

Kashmir will host a month-long series of events.

The 71st edition of the Miss World pageant is slated to be held in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir with 140 participating countries. The announcement was made by Julia Morley, CEO of the Miss World Organisation, who termed the decision as ’emotional for us’.

Morley, who is on a Kashmir visit, told the media,

Truthfully, I am so happy. It is emotional for us, to see such beauty.

Competitors will take part in “talent showcases, sports challenges, and charitable initiatives” to shortlist participants before the grand finale in December, the organization said. Miss World organizers say the contest “celebrates the beauty, intellect, and humanitarian efforts of women”.

India would be hosting the pageant after nearly three decades. The last time the country hosted the event was in 1996.

Control of the Muslim-majority territory is split between India and Pakistan, both of whom claim it in full but administer separate portions, divided by the Line of Control.
