Is Film ‘Lafangey’ A Blatant Copy Of Telgu Movie ‘Anando Brahma’?

Allegations are raising concerns for lack of creativity.

Filmmakers often complain that people don’t appreciate local films. They also criticize India for stealing their content but our Pakistani filmmakers are no different either. Lollywood sometimes blatantly copies Bollywood and a similar case once again happened. The horror-comedy film Lafangey shows a striking similarity with the Indian Telugu film ‘Anando Brahma’.

Lafangey is written by Abdul Khaaliq Khan. Produced by Tariq Habib Rind, the film features Sami Khan, Mani, Saleem Mairaj, Mubeen Gabol, and Nazish Jahangir. The film is slated to release on Eid-ul-Azha 2022.

The story revolves around four men. Due to some personal gains, they enter a haunted house. The guys encounter both natural and supernatural beings during their stay but remain resolute, leading to hilarious situations that occur within the vicinity.

And if we are to compare the trailer of this upcoming film with the Telugu film Anando Brahma which came in 2017 it has an uncanny resemblance. From the sets to the characters, everything is exactly the same. Compare the trailers yourself,

And this didn’t happen for the first time Ahsan Khan and Neelam Muneer’s 2017 film Chupan Chupai was also a copy of the Tamil movie ‘Soodhu Kavvum’

Experiencing a new genre is good we must be creative enough to make our own content rather than copying others’ work. Without even giving the credits to the original work. Given the current situation of Pakistan’s film industry filmmakers should work on the stories and concepts instead of bashing cinemas for not getting enough screening.
