Ishaq Dar’s Companion Lashes Out at Overseas Pakistanis at Washington Airport

People started chanting ‘thief’ and ‘chor’ and the minister didn’t hold back.

Pakistan’s new Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar, was heckled by the overseas Pakistanis on his arrival at the US airport today, in what came across as an embarrassing exchange of vitriol.

The enraged people started jeering at him and chanted “Chor! Chor!” and “Thief!”, which lead to an abusive exchange between them and his companion.

This is not the first time political leaders from Pakistan Muslim League-Noon (PML-N) have been humiliated by the public abroad. Last month, the Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb, was also hounded and heckled by expatriate Pakistani PTI supporters in London. It is pertinent to note that her calm and cool composure and response to them won her a lot of respect.

Minister Dar left for the US today to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He was accompanied by the Governor of the State Bank, the Secretary of Finance, and other ministers.

Muhammad Ishaq Dar is a Pakistani accountant and member of the Senate serving as the 42nd Finance Minister of Pakistan since September 28, 2022.

Dar was declared a ‘Proclaimed Offender’ in 2017 and 2022. However, after his return to Pakistan on 26 September, he was declared clean by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
