Jack Black Joins Jason Momoa for Live-Action Minecraft Movie

The film is slated to open in theaters on April 4, 2025.

The American actor, Jack Black is set to join Jason Momoa in the new live-action movie based on best-selling video game Minecraft. According to reports in Deadline, the 54-year-old actor and Tenacious D musician will play a character named Steve.

Previously it was announced, that Jason Momoa is starring in the movie alongside “Wednesday’s” Emma Myers and “The Color Purple” actor Danielle Brooks. Production is expected to begin imminently in New Zealand.

“Napoleon Dynamite” filmmaker Jared Hess, who previously worked with Black on the 2006 comedy “Nacho Libre,” is directing the project. Warner Bros. and Legendary are backing “Minecraft,” which is slated to open in theaters on April 4, 2025.

While plot details are still to be revealed, the movie is an adaptation of the best-selling video game of all time. Minecraft, which was first released in 2009, has sold over 300 million copies and has nearly 140 million monthly active players.

Meanwhile, Jack has previously worked in different game-related movies, which included, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Lionsgate’s upcoming Borderlands.

Moreover, Jack will also reprise his voice role as Po in Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s comedy Kung Fu Panda 4, which will hit theatres on March 8.
