In a shocking turn of events, prominent Indian businessman and former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay Kapur, passed away at the age of 53 on June 12, 2025. According to sources cited by India Today, the industrialist suffered a fatal heart attack while playing polo, a sport he was deeply passionate about, in England.
Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading automotive technology company, was a well-known figure in both business and social circles. His sudden demise has sent ripples of grief through India’s corporate and entertainment industries.
Adding a poignant layer to the tragedy, Sunjay’s final post on X, shared just hours before his passing, expressed condolences for the victims of the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on the same day. “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash,” he wrote, unaware of the personal tragedy that would soon follow.
Sunjay Kapur’s personal life often made headlines, particularly his high-profile marriage to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple, who share two children—daughter Samaira (born 2005) and son Kiaan (born 2010)—faced a tumultuous relationship that ended in a highly publicized divorce in 2016 after a bitter separation in 2014. Despite their challenges, Sunjay and Karisma remained committed to co-parenting their children.
The news of Sunjay’s death prompted an outpouring of support for his family, with Bollywood figures like Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan rushing to Karisma’s Mumbai residence to offer their condolences. Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora were also spotted at Karisma’s home, reflecting the deep ties within the industry.
