In a jaw-dropping revelation that’s sure to raise eyebrows, Hollywood star Kevin Bacon shared the story of how he first met his wife, Kyra Sedgwick—when she was just 12 years old and a starry-eyed fan of his work.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Kevin recounted the bizarre encounter that took place nearly 50 years ago.
At the time, he was a 19-year-old rising star performing off-Broadway, while Kyra was a young girl with dreams of becoming an actress. Her mother, recognizing her daughter’s admiration, thought it would be a great idea for Kyra to see Kevin in action.
“I was doing a lot of off-Broadway stuff,” Kevin explained. “Her mom had seen me in some plays and said, ‘You should go see this actor.’”
After the matinee performance, while Kevin was grabbing a sandwich at a nearby deli, a 12-year-old Kyra approached him, saying, “Hi, I liked you in the play.” In a moment that could only be described as cringe-worthy, Kevin responded with a casual, “Thanks, sweetie,” a line he now admits might have come off as a bit “misogynistic.”
Fast forward to their later collaboration in the 1988 television movie Lemon Sky, where Kyra reminded him of their earlier encounter. “She said, ‘You know, we met in the village after that play. Do you remember that?’” Kevin recalled. “And I went, ‘Yeah, I do remember that.’ She went, ‘Really?’ and I went, ‘No.’ So, she did not like me. It was not love at first sight.”

Despite the shocking age difference and the awkwardness of their first meeting, the couple has been happily married since 1988 and are proud parents to two children, Travis and Sosie.
