KPK’s Sikh Community is Distributing Rations to Crisis-Hit Families

Helping the province get through coronavirus lockdown.

Sikh community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has the third-highest number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan. More than 800 people have lost their lives in the province. Regardless to say, times are getting harder for those living off a daily wage or the ones who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. It is heartening to see that the Sikh community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is taking charge of the situation and distributing ration bags to those in need.

A pharmacist from the community, Dr. Jatinder Singh, spoke to Arab News about the work they have been doing. He said,

We try not to publicise this since we only seek our reward from God and want to protect the identity and dignity of all beneficiaries.

Singh also mentioned that many business owners from his community are contributing to the cause. They have distributed ration bags to around 400 families as of yet. He further added,

This is a community-driven welfare service which is a great source of satisfaction for us.

Before the pandemic, the community held Iftaar dinners for Muslims during Ramadan. Many Muslim philanthropists have also joined hands with the Sikh community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to distribute ration bags.

We distribute ration packs among deserving families regardless of their caste and creed. We hope that this endeavor will somewhat mitigate the negative economic impact on people’s lives caused by the pandemic.
