Kubra Khan Wants Love Songs To Praise Inner Beauty, Not Just ‘Jism, Ankhein’

Many women are just so done with superficial compliments. It’d be nice for people to actually notice you rather than just notice how you look. The fact that most love songs emphasize that, doesn’t help. So Kubra Khan wants better love songs.

The Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay actress believes that listening to love songs is listening to the artist’s admiration for a person. When this praise is limited to physical appearance, the connection they build off that lacks appreciation for a person’s personality.

She believes this is a gap the music industry needs to fill.

The Sinf-e-Aahan tweeted asking why can’t love songs highlight the character of people instead of ‘qatilana ankhen (eyes to die for)’ or ‘zulfen (hair)’.

Kubra Khan admitted that while she’s a ‘sucker for these songs like the next person’ and would want to be told that she’s beautiful even when she is in her 70s, she still wonders why people aren’t praising ‘the beauty within‘.

“Like, I’m sure like me many of you would love it more if your dude or dudette said to you ‘yaar, khoobsurat to hai he, lekin insaan Kamaal hai, dil kamaal hai [they are beautiful, but they’re also a wonderful human being with a wonderful heart]’ or am I wrong? Again just thinking out loud so don’t kill me.”

The Na Maloom Afraad actress highlighted how character and personality are far more important than looks that will fade with time. Yet that is hardly ever highlighted in music.

While we all like being told that we’re beautiful, why does the meaning of beauty only have to mean what we see on the outside? Beauty is skin deep after all.
