Viral celebrity Ustad Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, a London minicab driver has become an overnight sensation in the UK after making headlines for his unique singing style with his lone song, “Tun Tuna Tun.” His name is Kashif Rana, but the internet refers to himself as ‘Ustad Chahat Fateh Ali Khan.’
Inspired by the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rana is a 56-year-old London minicab driver. He grew up loving Qawaali as a child in Sheikhupura. He rose to prominence after performing the classic “Reshk-e-Qamar” as well as his own composition, “Tun Tunna Tun.” Check it out!
Whether “Tun Tunna Tun” makes any sense or not, that’s debatable. The man is dedicated to his persona, adapting the ‘Fateh Ali Khan’ as well as dressing the part. Recently, he sat with a local news outlet to talk about his internet fame. The tide of criticism hasn’t discouraged ‘Ustad Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’ who always believed that he has what it takes to be a musical hit.
“I have been criticized a lot, but I don’t mind criticism as long as people engage with me. I have done more than 750 shows live, on Facebook. Every kind of feedback is welcome. I will never stop singing, whether you like it or hate it. I’ve not played for commercial reasons till now as it was a lonely journey and there were no offers, but that has changed now. I have been contacted by five media houses with some offers that I cannot disclose at this stage.”
