Lahore Gets a Glorious Statue of Turkish Leader Ertugrul [Video]

Fans are delighted.

Ertugrul

Based on the 13th Century Oghuz Turks, Diriliş: Ertuğrul or Ertugrul Ghazi has gotten a lot of love from the Pakistani viewers. So much that some folks wanted to make this love a permanent fixture, literally.

Lahore, which is considered the cultural capital of Pakistan, has once again proven why it deserves that distinction. The city now has a statue, paying tribute to Ertugrul himself. This proves that people are utterly love-struck by the Turkish show.

The Urdu dubbed version of Diriliş: Ertuğrul is being aired in the country on PTV as Ertugrul Ghazi. Since its release on YouTube, the show has enjoyed record-breaking success. A month after the first episode was posted, PTV’s YouTube channel now has 5.29 million subscribers.

Ertugrul Ghazi

Where is this Ertugrul Statue?

It goes without saying that the statue in Maraghzar Housing Scheme, situated along the Multan Road, might be one of the many statues paying tribute to the Muslim Turk leaders.

The president of the housing scheme, Muhammad Shahzad Cheema, says that after some residents pitched in the idea of a statue paying tribute to Ertugrul, he decided to go forward with the plan.

The statue was made with fibre and metal in the city of Kamalia of Toba Tek Singh district, but as far as the price of the finished product is concerned, Cheema would rather not reveal it.

I won’t mention the cost of these statues; otherwise, their value would get the attention of the public. I went to Kamalia myself to place the order for these statues.

Two statues have been made in honor of the show and while one has been revealed, the other one is yet to be.

We will call the place Ertugrul Ghazi Chowk.

Cheema also mentioned that while some Pakistanis are new to this side of history, he had already read up on it before the show aired.

What has affected me most about this character is the way he united the entire tribe and formed the Ottoman Empire – this is something that the world’s anti-Muslim community cannot digest. Our kids may enjoy the show, but they should be able to also see him in artistic depiction – something physical they can marvel at.
