Directed by Nadeem Baig, Love Guru is a romantic comedy that revolves around a man who believes he can solve everyone’s relationship problems, but his own love life takes an unexpected turn.

The film boasts a talented cast of characters: Sofia (played by Mahira Khan), a free-spirit “girl” living in London, Adil (played by Humayun Saeed), a smooth-talking conman hired by Sofia’s father (Javed Shiekh) to change her mind of marrying Ahmed (played by Ahmed Ali Butt, who’s role was kept secret throughout the first half of the film).

The story of Love Guru follows a familiar romantic comedy formula. It centers around a disapproving father who isn’t happy with his daughter Sofia’s romantic choices. Sofia eventually defies her father’s control through emotional manipulation.

Wanting to protect her but unsure how, the father enlists Adil, a man who pretends to be a wealthy businessman and enters Sofia’s life to steer her away from her impending marriage.

Predictably, as they spend time together, Adil and Sofia fall in love. This leads Sofia to reconsider her decision, and the story concludes with their happy ending.

While the story lacks novelty, it’s the execution that sets Love Guru apart. Vasay Chaudhry’s screenplay is watertight and smooth, his dialogues are crisp and contemporary yet laced with an old-school charm with references to Munir Niazi and John Elia’s poetry, serving as icing on the cake.

Though a few scenes occasionally drag on. The dialogues, however, are consistently engaging and keep the film afloat.

The direction is also noteworthy, with Nadeem Baig effectively using cinematography and music to create a captivating atmosphere.

However, there are some areas for improvement; the pacing can be slow at times, and the plot feels underdeveloped.

Overall, Love Guru is still a movie worth watching in cinemas. With it’s engaging romantic comedy and strong performances, head to a nearby theater near you to catch this charming rom-com on the big screen.
