While we’re all loving Kate Middleton’s style choices on her Royal visit to Pakistan, some people have taken this as an opportunity to tell Pakistani women what is acceptable for them. Some folks went so far as to say that Pakistani actresses should learn how to dress from the Duchess of Cambridge.
We think that’s wrong. Because by that logic, Pakistani women should wear western attire when touring their countries. So now Pakistani actresses are calling out the ‘Gora complex‘.
Kate looks real regal in those dresses. Anyone who used this visit to go on moral policing was given a reality check (more below).

Pakistani actresses are calling out the double standards
That’s why Mansha Pasha, Armeena Khan, and Zhalay Sarhadi are calling out the Gora complex and hypocrisy.
Pakistani actresses are done being schooled on what to wear. Especially when they’re criticized for wearing western attire while simultaneously being told they need to learn how to dress from Kate Middleton, a western woman.
As much as im loving seeing Kate Middleton in desi outfits, its getting tiring to read "Pak actresses ko in se kapray pehna seekhna chahiye."
Gora complex doesnt mean u start criticising Pakistani actresses P.S. shes a royal and thus has to dress as per protocol.— Mansha Pasha (@manshapasha) October 15, 2019
I absolutely agree with this. I don’t see the British commenting on our clothes when we Adorn a jeans and a tee! #desipeopleproblems https://t.co/wX2wLz01Vl

That’s when people brought in the ‘cultural representation’ card. To this, Mansha interjected that since Kate Middleton is a British royal, by that logic she’s abandoning her culture by wearing shalwar kameez.
Somehow people in UK dont feel that kate middleton is abandoning her culture when she wears a kurta but everyone here is abandoning their culture when they wear anything else https://t.co/yy0N1Otxya

The Surkh Chandni actress pointed out how when men wear Western attire it’s okay, but when women do so they’re abandoning culture.
Are Pakistani men also "abandoning their culture" and "supporting non Muslim values" when they wear jeans and a shirt since that is also a Western outfit?
When will the day come when women dont have to carry the burden of culture, religion, honor, representation?— Mansha Pasha (@manshapasha) October 15, 2019
When the conversation steered to risky clothing rather than western clothing, Mansha Pasha had that covered as well.
Ha!
A dime for everytime an actor has posted a shirtless selfie.
Please take note of the hypocrisy in your statement. https://t.co/rUPsX5Ad9c— Mansha Pasha (@manshapasha) October 15, 2019

Its all about control, says Mansha Pasha
The Laal Kabotaar actress brought up how this conversation is basically used to bash women, and for moral policing. It all boils down to controlling women, telling them what they can and can’t wear.
In offices and businesses in Pak, the dress code is suits. Which is a western outfit. Dont see anyone losing their mind and protesting it.
Its about women wearing a western outfit. Because ppl like to tell women what to wear using culture & religion to do so. Not men. https://t.co/I4mGyT4sJZ— Mansha Pasha (@manshapasha) October 15, 2019
When it comes to cultural values, most people don’t realize that culture needs to adapt to contemporary demands.
We really need to get past the need to dictate what women should wear. And lest anybody thinks that this is limited to shaming Pakistani actresses for wearing western clothing, things like the burka ban in France are also part of the problem.
