Maria B. is back in the news once again! But for better reasons, thankfully. After the popular designer and her husband became a hilarious meme on social media for being so careless, Maria has decided to step forward for a charitable cause to make 100,000 masks and “to distribute to as many people as possible.
After the horrific rise of COVID-19, Pakistani designers stood up to do their part against the global pandemic.
The designer and her husband were put on blast for letting their cook (a COVID-19 positive patient) go home on public transport without notifying the authorities. The couple’s apology was made fun of on social media.
However, in a twist of events, the cook later tested negative for the deadly disease and people decided to move on and ignore the ill-treatment of the designer and her husband.

In an attempt to win back fans and followers, Maria B. stepped forward with the initiative to make as many protective masks for the public as they can. According to the brand,
“We are currently producing 1000 masks a day in both cotton and 25 GSM approved fabric. The brand has always taken steps to help out Pakistan and its people wherever possible. Through our Maria.B Cares initiative we have collaborated with various organisation, government and private sectors in doing what we can, be it fighting against COVID-19, providing rations, healthcare, education or the environment. We do what we can and encourage everyone to join hands and do whatever they can to build a prosperous nation.”
The brand revealed that the team is also working closely with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) by providing them with masks, industrial/pocket sanitizers, PPE suits, gloves, face shields, caps as well as shoe covers.
It is good to see such a noble initiative. Hopefully, people will cut some slack for the couple. This may count as a PR win for Maria B after all.
