Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has become engaged to the daughter of Usman Javed in a private ceremony held in Lahore on Wednesday night. The event was attended by close family members, including former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Javed Shafi.

Usman Javed is the son of Javed Shafi and the grandson of Mian Javed Shafi, who is a first cousin and close confidante of Nawaz Sharif. The engagement further strengthens ties between two prominent branches of the Sharif family. The nikah ceremony is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

This marks Junaid Safdar’s second marriage. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif, daughter of Qatar-based industrialist Saifur Rahman Khan. The couple divorced in October 2023, two years after their wedding in London. According to Ayesha Saif, one of the reasons why her marriage did not last long was due to the controlling nature of her mother-in-law, Maryam Nawaz.

Junaid Safdar, a Cambridge graduate, holds two master’s and two bachelor’s degrees from UK universities, including a master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics and another in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London. He returned to Pakistan in October 2023 to support his mother’s political career.
