Matthew Perry, Emmy Nominated ‘Friends’ Star Dies At 54

He drowned in jacuzzi at his home.

“Friends” actor Matthew Perry, known for his role as the sarcastic yet lovable Chandler Bing, has passed away at the age of 54.

Matthew was found dead at a Los Angeles-area home on Saturday. According to the reports, Perry was found in a jacuzzi at the residence, and first responders were called to the residence for cardiac arrest. No drugs were found at the scene and no foul play was reported, they added.

Perry’s 10 seasons on “Friends” made him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors, starring opposite Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer as a friend group in New York.

As Chandler, he played the quick-witted, insecure and neurotic roommate of LeBlanc’s Joey and a close friend of Schwimmer’s Ross. During the show’s hijinks, he could be counted on to chime in with a line like “Could this BE any more awkward?” or another well-timed quip.

Perry was open about his long and public struggle with addiction, writing at the beginning of his 2022 million-selling memoir: “Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead.”

Matthew Perry, the son of actor John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Marie Langford, onetime press secretary of Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, was born in 1969 and grew up between Canada and Los Angeles after his parents separated when Perry was 1.

He got his start as a child actor, landing guest spots on “Charles in Charge” and “Beverly Hills 90210” and playing opposite River Phoenix in the film “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon” in the 1980s and early 1990s.

But his big break came when he was cast in “Friends” a sitcom about six single New Yorkers navigating adulthood that premiered on NBC in 1994.
