Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane has been digitally removed from Sanam Teri Kasam posters on music streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music, following her outspoken condemnation of India’s military operation, dubbed Operation Sindoor.
The move comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan and a fiery public spat with her Sanam Teri Kasam co-star Harshvardhan Rane, who criticized her remarks as “derogatory” and “hateful.” Hocane, undeterred, defended her stance with a passionate rebuttal, intensifying the controversy surrounding the 2016 romantic drama’s resurgence.
The saga began on May 7, 2025, when Hocane, a prominent Pakistani actress known for her Bollywood debut in Sanam Teri Kasam, denounced India’s airstrikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.
Hocane’s remarks drew sharp criticism from Harshvardhan Rane, her Sanam Teri Kasam co-star, who announced on Instagram that he would not participate in a potential sequel if the original cast, specifically Hocane, was involved. He emphasized his pride in India, stating he would not compromise his “upbringing” even if it meant losing followers.
Hocane didn’t hold back in her rebuttal. In a series of Instagram Stories, she accused Rane of exploiting the India-Pakistan conflict for “personal gain” and called his exit from the sequel a “PR strategy.”
Rane fired back, maintaining his composure but accusing Hocane of personal attacks. “So much hate in her speech, so many personal remarks. I never mentioned her name or resorted to calling her names. Didn’t attack her dignity as a woman. I intend to maintain that standard,” he wrote on Instagram, likening the situation to an Indian farmer “weeding” out unwanted elements—a not-so-subtle jab at Hocane’s exclusion.
As the India-Pakistan conflict continues to shape cultural narratives, the Sanam Teri Kasam saga underscores the fragile intersection of art and politics. For now, Hocane’s absence from the film’s posters is a stark reminder of the widening divide, leaving fans on both sides to wonder if the romantic tragedy’s legacy will endure this real-world drama.
