Pakistan’s trending diva, Mawra Hocane is basking in the glow of newfound success for her 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam, nearly a decade after its initial release.
The romantic drama, which once flopped at the box office, has recently shattered records following its re-release in India, and Mawra attributes this unexpected resurgence to a rather charming source: her husband, Ameer Gilani.
In a candid chat with Faridoon Shahryar, Mawra Hocane reflected on the rollercoaster journey of Sanam Teri Kasam, revealing that the film’s initial failure left her questioning her acting abilities. “
When something you exhaust yourself working on doesn’t succeed, it’s heartbreaking,” she admitted, recalling her time in India at just 22 years old, far from her family. “I really thought the actor in me had died,” she confessed.
But now, with the film’s re-release coinciding with her marriage, Mawra Hocane believes that her husband has brought a stroke of marital luck. “To be honest, if the film waited nine years to do these numbers, then it’s my husband bringing in the luck because the only thing that has changed is that,” she quipped.
Reflecting on her role as Saru, Mawra Hocane credited the film’s success to teamwork and the collective effort of the cast and crew. “My job was to be on set on time, be focused, and absorb as much as I could. The rest of everything that has happened, I didn’t do it. The universe did it. It was magic,” she said.
