The Costume Institute Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar. Met Gala was founded by Eleanor Lambert back in 1948 in order to encourage donations from New York’s elite class society.
The most renowned artists from fashion, film, music and art gather under one roof to raise money for the Met’s Costume Institute and celebrate the grand opening of its latest exhibition.
Met Gala is famous for delivering the most bold fashion statements of the year. The charity event that costs more then $30,000 a head to attend.
This year the theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” which resulted in a series of daring yet astounding looks of celebrities. The stars of stage, screen, music, fashion and sport arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York Monday night for the event.
The outfits this year were based on “irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality and exaggeration, just as the exhibition.
To show how it’s done, the famous Lady Gaga made a statement at the very beginning of the event. She arrived at the event in a in a billowing pink outfit.
Which opened up to reveal a black gown, which was her second outfit.
Which was then set aside to reveal Lady Gaga’s third outfit, a slim-fitting pink gown.
