Hollywood diva Sydney Sweeney is teaming up with director Michael Bay for a live-action adaptation of the iconic ‘Outrun’ video game.
Hollywood is revving up for another blockbuster video game adaptation, and this time, Universal Studios is hitting the gas with a star-powered take on Sega’s iconic arcade classic, OutRun.
With A Minecraft Movie dominating the box office and HBO’s The Last of Us making waves, Universal is tapping into the gaming craze by bringing the high-speed thrills of OutRun to the big screen.
The project, still in development, boasts an all-star team. Bay, known for his explosive blockbusters like Transformers and Bad Boys, will produce alongside his Platinum Dunes partner Brad Fuller.
Jayson Rothwell (Polar, Arachnid) is penning the script, while Sega’s Toru Nakahara (Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles) and Shuji Utsumi, Sega’s president and COO, are also producing and overseeing the project.
Sydney Sweeney, though currently attached only as a producer, brings her growing industry clout to the table, fresh off her producing and starring roles in the horror hit Immaculate and the upcoming Christy Martin biopic.
For those unfamiliar, OutRun isn’t just a game—it’s a cultural phenomenon. Launched in the 1980s, Sega’s arcade masterpiece revolutionized driving games with its sleek visuals, innovative gameplay, and a signature electronic music subgenre that still inspires artists today.
