Narendra Modi’s Twitter Account Gets Hacked

What happened here?

Modi

In an unusual turn of events, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account has been hacked. However. it should be mentioned that it was Modi’s personal Twitter account which got hacked, not the official Prime Minister of India one.

However the damage has already been done as whoever hacked Modi’s Twitter account, @narendranodi_in, asked for donations for a COVID-19 relief fund. They even asserted that they would accept donations via Bitcoin.

The tweets were posted at 3:09 AM on 3rd September 2020, and weren’t removed until 4:05 AM. Looks like @narendranodi_in’s 2.5 million followers already got an eye-full.

In the last tweet posted at around 3:16 AM, a hacker group called ‘John Wick’ claimed responsibility for hacking the account.

Besides Indian state media NDTV, Twitter has also confirmed that the account was compromised.

In a statement, Twitter revealed that they are currently ‘actively investigating’ the case. In an email statement, a Twitter spokeswoman said;

“We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted.”

Twitter Shows No Remorse

The instance of a head of government’s Twitter account being hacked is no laughing matter. But Twitter not only had a laugh about the whole ordeal, it also spawned some savage memes.
