Netflix India series Bard of Blood has invited the ire of Pakistanis for many reasons, most importantly its Islamophobic tone.
Recently, the show got called out by SAMAA TV for its unauthorized use of the network’s trademark logo “SAMAA”.
Another Failed Attempt At Defaming Pakistani Media
Despite the show being about a spy in Pakistan, Bard of Blood is not actually shot in Pakistan. However, in an attempt to add some authenticity, the show used a popular Pakistani TV network’s logo – without permission!
In the fourth episode of the Netflix series, the protagonist (played by Emraan Hashmi) can be seen wearing an identity card around his neck which clearly has the SAMAA TV logo on it. The character is an Indian spy and is using the cover of a journalist to complete his undercover mission.

SAMAA Takes Action
SAMAA TV spotted the unauthorized use of their logo and wrote a letter to Netflix on October 10. Netflix complied with SAMAA’s request and took action.
Despite the hostility between the two countries, the issue was resolved in a decent manner without any delay. The online streaming service responded to the letter:
“In the interest of good faith and cooperation, as requested in the letter, we confirm that we have edited the sequence of episode No. 4 of the series where you claim to view your client’s trademark or brand ‘SAMAA,’” Priyanka Chaudhry, Netflix’s director and senior counsel, said in a letter.
She also added that her organization had no intention and the series does not in any manner defame, disrepute or infringe SAMAA TV’s brand.
Not Worth A Watch
The web series Bard of Blood is produced by Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. The cast includes Viineet Kumar Singh, Kirti Kulhari and Sobhita Dhulipala. Despite such big names attached to the series, controversies and its not-so-subtitle propaganda against Pakistan, Bard of Blood has not been well-received by both fans and critics. No surprise there!
