Netflix Sets Sail for a Second Season of ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Series

The grand voyage continues as the streaming giant renews the show just two weeks after its premiere.

Netflix has officially confirmed that the live-action adaptation of the beloved One Piece series will return for a second season.

The announcement comes exactly two weeks after the series made its debut on the streaming platform, and it has been well-received from both fans and critics alike.

The renewal of One Piece for a second season hardly comes as a surprise. Since its premiere, the series has consistently topped Netflix’s weekly top 10 charts, showcasing its immense popularity and wide-reaching appeal.

Critics have also showered praise on the show, recognizing its faithfulness to the source material and its ability to capture the essence of the beloved manga and anime series.

Netflix’s track record with live-action adaptations of anime and manga properties has been somewhat rocky in the past, with mixed reactions to series like Cowboy Bebop and the Americanized version of Death Note.

However, with One Piece, the streaming giant appears to have struck gold, winning over fans and critics alike with its authentic and respectful approach to the source material.

Based on the iconic manga and anime series of the same name, One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young and ambitious pirate on a quest to find the legendary One Piece treasure, which will grant him the title of King of the Pirates if he succeeds.

Iñaki Godoy leads the cast as Luffy, alongside a talented ensemble that includes Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

The series also features Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala in various roles.

Matt Owens and Steven Maeda serve as writers, executive producers, and showrunners on the series. Eiichiro Oda, the original creator of One Piece, also serves as an executive producer, alongside Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios.

The collaboration between Netflix, Shueisha, Tomorrow Studios, and other key players has brought the beloved series to life in a remarkable way.

Fans of One Piece won’t have to wait long for the next installment, as it has already been confirmed that scripts for the second season are completed.

Marty Adelstein mentioned that the second season could be ready “somewhere between a year and 18 months” from now, giving viewers something to look forward to in the near future.
