A good thing.

New Zealand just flagged down a movie based on the Mumbai terror attacks, following the Christchurch shootings.

The country’s cinemas took down the documentary-style thriller, Hotel Mumbai. The movie was based on the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

The decision came following the right-wing terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch on March, 14. The attack on the mosques was carried out during Friday prayers, resulting in the deaths of 50 people.

Hotel Mumbai cast Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, and Jason Isaacs to name a few. The story is based on the bombing and shootings carried out by terrorists on November 26, 2008 in Mumbai. The Mumbai terror attacks led to the deaths of 174 people and numerous injured. The attack extended for a period of four days.

The movie had been released in New Zealand cinemas last Thursday and was screened over the weekend.

According to Icon Film Distribution, the movie was pulled down specifically due to the Christchurch mosque attacks.

“Following the recent terrorist attacks in New Zealand, Icon Film Distribution have announced the suspension of the film ‘Hotel Mumbai’ from all cinemas in New Zealand.”

A Temporary Measure

The suspension is temporary and the movie has been pulled down till Monday until March 28th. The movie is scheduled for release in the United States on March, 22nd.

Pulling down the movie was a good decision on behalf of the New Zealand distribution authorities. Since the movie dramatizes a terrorist attack, the decision to stop its screening only makes sense at this point in time.

Meanwhile, Film Distribution Icon’s head of group marketing Scott Mota said the movie was pulled down ‘out of respect for a country in mourning’.
