Newborn Girl Gets Named After Corona By Her Family

We’re glad they left out the ‘virus’ bit at least.

Every parent’s dream is to pick out a name for their newborn child. A strong name helps build identity, sometimes even the character of the child. Maybe they would want to carry on their parent’s legacy. For most of us “boomers.” names were strong ideas, be they based on our ancestry or traditions. However, nowadays names are picked based on what’s trending on social media.

From fictional TV characters like Arya, Khaleesi, Tyrion from Game of Thrones to literally numbers (yes, we’re talking about you, Eleven!), people will literally name their child anything that sounds good or is trending. Recently a girl born in Gorakhpur, India was named after the most trending thing on social media, ‘Corona’.

We’re guessing that’s baby Corona’s face when she heard her name.

Apparently, the child born in Sohgaura village was given the name by her uncle Nitesh Tripathi with permission from the newborn’s mother, Ragini Tripathi. According to reports, the name was given with good intentions. The uncle believes that even though the COVID-19 has claimed the lives of many and struck fear around the globe, it has also “unified the world on the issue”.

“The virus is no doubt dangerous and has killed so many people in the world, but it has also inculcated many good habits in us and brought the world closer. This baby will be the symbol of people’s unity to fight evil,” he said.

Well, we hope baby Corona gets the gist and ‘symbolism’ of her name or she’s looking at a year’s worth of therapy. But all we can say to baby Corona is that it could’ve been worse – at least your uncle didn’t include the word ‘virus’ in the name. What do you think? Is anyone keen on naming their future babies ‘Corona’? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
