‘No Woman Wants Backlash for Speaking About Sexual Harassment’: Ayesha Omar

“I hope I’m as brave as Meesha one day”.

Actress Ayesha Omar recently appeared in an interview and spoke up about sexual harassment cases in the industry and her belief in survivors.

She discussed the case of Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar and revealed that journalists started questioning her bout it as she had been judging the Battle of the Bands show.

Aesha Omar said,

About Meesha, I said I have not spoken to her right now but I am sure if something has happened to her she will speak the truth.

She told the host that her comment led to people criticizing her for hinting that something had truly happened with Meesha Shafi.

Ayesha Omar also divulged details about her own sexual harassment case. She said it happened 13 years ago in the showbiz industry but she still does not have enough courage to talk about it because of the backlash women get after for speaking up in such instances.

She said,

No woman would want that kind of attention or backlash for talking about her sexual harassment incident.

While talking about Meesha Shafi’s sexual harassment allegations against Ali Zafar in an old interview with Ahsan Khan, Ayesha Omar had said, “I hope I’m as brave as Meesha one day. The thing is that it’s when people like Meesha come forward, that other people draw the strength to tell their stories”.

She added, “Ali is one of the biggest actors in our industry, I’ve known him since childhood, he’s a friend of mine, but that doesn’t mean anything. If there is no proof of [what he’s been accused of], Ali has a right to deny anything. I would do the same. But that doesn’t mean we can doubt the honesty or intentions of the accuser”.
