On the Run: Model Ayyan Ali Declared as Proclaimed Offender in Money Laundering Case

The court seized her assets and issued a permanent arrest warrant for the model.

Model Ayyan Ali has finally been declared a proclaimed offender in the money laundering case filed against her in 2015.

This decision was made by a special customs court in Rawalpindi on Saturday. The Court was assembled to issue an interim warrant for the model Ayyan Ali. The Court directed for her assets to be seized

The Order Against Ayyan Ali

Judge Arshad Hussain Bhatta issued the directives. He also ordered the defendant to produce witnesses before the Court on March,16, 2019  to record statements. All witnesses have been summoned in the next hearing.

The Court directed the defense attorneys Shaukat Abbas and Muhammad Nawaz and the prosecutor handling Ayyan Ali’s currency smuggling case to present the case details.

Judge Arshad Hussain Bhatta expressed resentment towards Ayyan Ali’s absence in court. Ayan was served a letter and granted two months time to appear before the court.

Due to her absence, the Court issued a permanent arrest warrant for Ayyan Ali. This means that Ayyan will be arrested whenever she arrives in Pakistan.

Bailable and non-bailable arrest warrants were also issued against the model. The Court directed the relevant department not to sell Ayyan’s flat. The court ordered for a letter to be sent to session judge Karachi asking him to appoint a magistrate who will prohibit the relevant department making the sale.

The Court was adjourned till March, 16.

How Ayyan Ali Became the Dollar Girl

On March, 14, 2015, the Dubai-born Pakistani model Ayyan Ali was arrested by the Airport Security Force at the Benazir International Airport.

Ayyan was arrested for carrying in cash 506,800 US Dollars that she was allegedly trying to smuggle to the United Arab Emirates. Her name was placed on the  Exit Control List (ECL).

Shortly afterwards, she was released on bail in July, 2016. Ayyan Ali only spent four months in Adiala Jail. Shortly after her bail, a court order removed her name from the ECL and she fled to Dubai.

Ayyan Ali started modeling in 2010. She garnered a lot of attention even before she was titled the ‘Dollar Girl’ and has won the title of Best Female Emerging Model in her debut year 2010.

She was nominated four times for the Lux Style Award.

She went on to win the Lux Style Award for ‘Model of the Year – Female’ three years in a row (2011-2013) before her career tanked with the money laundering case.
