Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Jujji, a Pakistani neo-noir crime thriller directed by Habib Shahzad and written by Ahmad Umar Ayaz. The Santa Monica-based company also released the film’s trailer ahead of its international launch.
Produced by BHM Films in partnership with Yūgen Studios and Lollipop, Jujji follows two police officers in Rawalpindi as they track down a serial killer. Muhammad Arsalan stars as the murderer, while Mustafa Rizvi and Anjum Habibi portray Sub-Inspector Naveed and Constable Arshad. As the investigation deepens, both officers struggle with their own moral dilemmas, challenging the line between justice and revenge.
The film will be available on demand starting November 21, 2025, in the US and UK through Amazon Prime Video and Verizon Fios/Vubiquity. A broader international rollout, including a Pakistani release, is expected shortly after.
Jujji took two years to develop and was originally a grassroots effort to bring Rawalpindi’s stories to an international audience. The film went on to win Best Feature at both the Gandhara Independent Film Festival 2024 and the Punjab Police Film Festival 2024. It was also screened at the Divvy Film Festival 2024.
Director Habib Shahzad described the film as a symbol of what Pakistani cinema can achieve when it embraces its own stories. “We wanted to show Rawalpindi as it really is, while also telling a story that connects with people everywhere,” he said.
Buffalo 8’s distribution head Nikki Stier Justice called Jujji a bold, genre-breaking thriller that combines South Asian storytelling with the broad appeal of true-crime cinema. Eifa Ahmad Awan from Yūgen Studios added that the film’s global release is a milestone for independent filmmakers in Pakistan.
