This year Pakistan became the 11th largest arms importer. Even though the country’s population, as well as size, is smaller than that of neighboring India, Pakistan’s Global Terrorism Index [GTI] is more than India’s. Political considerations aside, a recent incident in Karachi’s Sea View road highlights how dangerous things can get at Pakistan’s largest city.
A man named Shehzad Niazi took to his Facebook account to report an incident that took place on Monday around 8:30 am. Niazi’s brother and his friends were out for a McDonald’s breakfast when they were met with a man whose tyrannical behavior struck out.
The young boys were about to exit the restaurant’s drive-thru when a man named Arsalan Suleman Gujjar crashed their car from behind. When the boys stepped out of the car, Arsalan opened fire on them. Niazi added that his brother and his friends are minors.
Here’s what he said:

Arsalan also held one of the boys on gunpoint and roamed around DHA till the boy agreed to apologize for a mistake he did not make. While the others called the police and waited impatiently for their friend to return.
Arsalan then returned to McDonald’s drive-thru, where the police were waiting for him. An FIR was filed and the culprit was taken into custody.
Here is a video of Arsalan holding a gun and violently threatening the young boys:
In 2019 over 700 thousand crimes were reported in Pakistan, and recently the news is filled with horror stories. While civilians call for arms for protection, we can’t help but think that better laws and police are needed to make sure people like Arslan Suleman Gujjar know the consequences of their actions.
