Princess and mountaineer, Sheikha Asma Al Thani, has made history by becoming the first Qatari woman to reach the summit of Nanga Parbat, one of the world’s most dangerous and challenging peaks.
Known as the “Killer Mountain,” Nanga Parbat stands at over 8,100 meters and is infamous for its treacherous terrain and extreme weather.
Despite facing brutal conditions, including black ice and relentless rockfall, Sheikha Asma successfully reached the summit and raised Qatar’s national flag.
Sharing her achievement on Instagram, she described the climb as her ninth 8,000-meter peak and one of her toughest yet, writing:
Alhamdolillah, Nanga Parbat. My ninth 8000er and one of the toughest climbs I’ve faced. This mountain tested me in ways I didn’t expect.
This accomplishment marks a significant milestone in Sheikha Asma’s mountaineering career, bringing her closer to the elite group of climbers who have summited all 14 of the world’s highest peaks.
Her journey is widely seen as a symbol of women’s empowerment, resilience, and courage in high-risk sports, inspiring young women across the globe.
Sheikha Asma is already recognized for several pioneering achievements: she is the first Qatari woman to summit Mount Everest, Lhotse, Manaslu, K2, and Ama Dablam, and the first Qatari person to ski to the North Pole.
She has also set records as the first Arab to summit an eight-thousander without supplemental oxygen and the first Arab to climb two 8,000-meter peaks without oxygen.
Currently serving as Director of Marketing and Communications for the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikha Asma continues to break barriers and inspire others with her determination and adventurous spirit.
