Popular model-turned-actor Saheefa Jabbar Khattak is under fire for publicly criticizing her maid, Musarrat, over how she spent charity money. The internet has labeled her comments as tone-deaf and invasive, with many accusing her of shaming the maid online.
Taking to Instagram, the Mooray Piya star shared her frustration over Musarrat spending Rs50,000 — money given to her as charity — in just two days. According to Saheefa, the money was “wasted” on Eid clothes and a bicycle for Musarrat’s children.
“It hurts to see that when you try to help people who are underprivileged, they end up wasting money,” Khattak wrote, adding that she would have made “better” spending choices, such as thrift shopping or buying stitched fabrics from Liberty Market.
What made the post particularly jarring for many was Saheefa’s detailed dissection of Musarrat’s personal life. She described the poor condition of Musarrat’s home, including her leaky roof and lack of privacy in her bathroom, painting a pitiful picture of her house help without consent.
The backlash was swift. Social media users called out Khattak for her patronizing tone and for policing how Musarrat chose to spend the money.
“This isn’t charity; it’s a power play,” one user commented, pointing out the imbalance of power in Khattak’s approach.
Many also criticized the performative nature of Khattak’s post, arguing that true charity doesn’t come with strings attached or public humiliation.
Instead of apologizing, Saheefa Jabbar Khattak doubled down on her stance. In lengthy comment replies, she defended her actions by listing the numerous things she and her family had done for Musarrat over the years, including giving her toys, chocolates, PR packages, and clothes from her shoots.
“If I take you to her house, everything she owns is given to her by me,” she claimed, a statement that many found ironic given her criticism of Musarrat’s spending choices.
In another comment, she said, “I take Musarrat as my sister. And as an older sister, I will always slap the s**t out of my sister for wasting money like that, especially when she is one of the needy ones.”
She later posted a follow-up on Instagram, further defending her position. She emphasized her belief in financial responsibility, not just for herself but for those who work for her.
“I want my house help to secure her future, take care of her children, ensure their health and education, and safeguard her home and family. Saving money is not greed; it’s survival,” she wrote.
She also took aim at celebrities and influencers, accusing them of hypocrisy for living lavish lifestyles while claiming to raise funds for the underprivileged.
“How many of you are truly willing to break the class divide you claim to care about? Would you share your plate with your house help? Drink from the same glass? Sit at the same dining table? Let them wear your clothes? If not, then stop the hypocrisy,” she added.
While some agreed with Khattak’s sentiment about financial responsibility, the majority criticized her for publicly shaming Musarrat.
