Who would have thought that a 2016 Bollywood flop, starring Mawra Hocane, would shatter records in 2025? While the world was busy swooning over Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gilani’s dreamy wedding, her Bollywood debut Sanam Teri Kasam was quietly making history.
The film, which originally underperformed at the box office, has now become the most successful re-release in India, even breaking Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani re-release record.
Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane, has always had a loyal fanbase, thanks to its emotional storyline and soulful music.
Over the years, the film gained cult status on satellite TV and streaming platforms, with fans clamoring for a theatrical re-release. Their wish was granted, and the film hit the big screens again on the same day as Mawra’s wedding.
The timing couldn’t have been more poetic. While Mawra was walking down the aisle, her nine-year-old film was walking into box office glory. In just two days, the re-release surpassed the film’s original lifetime collection—a feat no one could have predicted.
The numbers are nothing short of extraordinary. According to Sacnilk, Sanam Teri Kasam earned ₹4.25 crore (Rs.13.5 crore) on its opening day, followed by ₹5.25 crore (Rs.16.75 crore) on Day 2 and ₹6-6.25 crore on Day 3. This brings the total to a whopping ₹15.50 crore (Rs. 49.46 crore) in just three days, already eclipsing its original lifetime earnings.
The film is outperforming not just fresh releases but also other re-releases, including Interstellar, Loveyapa, Badass Ravi Kumar, and Padmaavat. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the film is expected to maintain its momentum, with Monday’s collections projected to hit ₹2-3 crore.
