Saudi Flight Makes Emergency Landing for Mother Who Forgot Her Baby

A ‘Home Alone’ moment in real life

Someone just pulled a ‘Home Alone’ on their baby and it caused an emergency landing. A Saudi flight had to land at the Jeddah Airport right after take-off because a woman forgot her baby at the airport terminal.

Flight SV832, bound to Kuala Lumpur from Jeddah made an emergency landing shortly after take-off when a woman told the cabin crew that she forgot her baby in the boarding area at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport.

News of this incident got out when a video started making rounds on social media showing the communication between the pilot and flight control. In the audio, the pilot can be heard requesting the ATC operators’ permission to re-route back to the airport.

The First Incident if Its Kind?

The authorities were not aware of the protocol for such an incident as it is so unusual. In the initial Arabic bits of the communication, the operator is asking his colleague about the protocol when the pilot requested landing.

“This flight is requesting to come back…a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing.”

After taking the flight number the operator then asks the pilot to re-confirm the reason for turning back in English. The pilot then confirmed in English:

“We told you, a passenger left her baby in the terminal and refuses to continue the flight.”

The operator then gives the green light for landing, overwhelmed by what happened.

“Ok, head back to the gate. This is totally a new one for us!”
