Popular cricketer Shahid Afridi gets backlash on social media for justifying his reasons for congratulating Shehbaz Sharif on becoming Prime Minister. Netizens label him a “turncoat” and call him out for “playing both sides.”
Shahid Afridi is not a getting a whole lot of love from the Pakistani awaam these days. Recently, Lala came into scrutiny when PML-N’s Shehbaz Sharif was made Prime Minister following Imran Khan’s controversial exit via “No-Confidence Vote” by the National Assembly.

Shahid Afridi’s salutation brought him severe backlash from the netizens. Afridi received flak for congratulating the new Prime Minister. It offended the audience.
Afridi took to social media to respond to the hate, reassuring fans that he has huge respect and love for Imran Khan. He then proceeds to elaborate his reasons for not supporting some of his policies and his reasons for congratulating Shehbaz Shariff. Check it out:
“I appreciate his good works, I love his Sehat Card initiative,” Afridi said. “I have never done criticism on his personality but I criticized a few of his policies, I had differences with him, we all have differences with each other, which I didn’t hide , I have all the rights to express my opinions. We should respect our Prime Minister so that world also respects him”
However, netizens did not let him off the hook. People took to the comments to stop “playing for both sides.” People felt that the former cricketer never criticized PPP nor PML-N during their tenure, but now, all of a sudden, Shahid Afridi is congratulating Shehbaz Sharif and criticizing Imran Khan.
