Swat Board Exams Topper Adnan Haleem Passes Away Due to COVID-19

A tragedy that could’ve been prevented with precautionary measures.

While people continue to ignore the threat of an ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the virus has claimed yet another young victim. Despite the fact that COVID-19 affects the immuno-compromised and the elderly, Swat Swat Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) topper Adnan Haleem passed away while battling the infection.

The 21-year-old topped the Swat BISE, Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) exam a while ago. With his stellar academic record, Adnan Haleem went on to enroll at Khyber Medical College and was currently in his 3rd year of Bachelors of Medicine and Biological Sciences (MBBS).

“Those with underlying health conditions and ethnic minorities, the next wave could target a different group.”

According to the expert, much like the Spanish influenza pandemic, the second wave appears to be affecting young people.

“What we saw in 1918 was the virus change and the second wave was different from the first wave and it affected a different group of people – particularly younger people.”

Pakistan has seen a steady rise in cases after September. This may have to do with the fact that’s when the lockdown was fully lifted, especially with cluster transmission. Even now people are shifting the blame rather than doing their part to contain the pandemic.

Some even demanded that medical colleges be closed again amid the second wave of the outbreak.

Aside from blaming the education department for reopening educational institutes, many had the empathy to react to the incident as you would in a tragedy.
