Miss Universe contestant, Anna Sueangam-iam from Thailand made a powerful fashion statement with her unique evening gown during the pageant’s preliminary round on Thursday.
While many of the 71st Miss Universe contestants chose to wear pricey and lavish gowns to win over the judges, Miss Thailand wore a gown made from hundreds of discarded and recycled soda can pull tabs.
Netizens worldwide applauded the Thai beauty for her creativity and admired her for staying true to her humble background.
The upcycle gown is labeled as the “Hidden Precious Diamond Dress” and is meticulously crafted from used aluminum pull-tabs of discarded soda cans.
When asked about the gown, Anna said, “This gown was inspired by the familiar surroundings of my childhood. Growing up with garbage collector parents, my life as a child was among piles of garbage and recyclables. This unique gown was purposefully tailored-made to present to the UNIVERSE that what’s considered worthless by many actually possesses its own value and beauty”.
The Miss Universe Thailand, Anna Sueangam-iam, grew up in poverty as she revealed that her father was a garbage collector and her mother was a street sweeper.
She also added that people often call her “the garbage beauty queen” but that never stopped her from shining bright, stating,
You must not get stuck with murky surroundings you were born into, but do believe you have the power to change your own life for the better.
The 71st Miss Universe pageant will take place on 14 January 2023 in the USA. The annual pageant has been held since 1952 and attracts contestants from all over the globe.
The pageant is known for its glitz, and glamour, and for showcasing some of the most talented and beautiful women in the world. It is a highly anticipated event that is watched by millions of people around the globe.
