2019 has not been the year for film success, especially these last two months. Industry sources in Pakistan reveal that there have been no movies which have generated significant box office revenue, with the only exception being Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, in October earlier this year.

Avengers: Endgame was the only movie that made any significant impact on the box office income this year. The movie was not able to break any lifetime record, however, it did establish new opening benchmarks and has been marked the highest grossing Hollywood film of all time in Pakistan.

Top Grossing films in Pakistan

None of the new 2019 releases have managed to secure a place in the top five highest grossing films of all time.

The number one spot is currently held by Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani, starring Fahad Mustafa and Humayun Saeed. The film has not only generated much more revenue than any of the other films on the list, but is also the only film which has generated PKR 500 million worth of revenue in Pakistan.

On the second spot, we have Ranbir Kapoor’s 2018 film Sanju. Before JPNA, Sanju was the highest grossing film of all time. Interestingly, it is the only Bollywood release to have secured a spot in this ranking. Which is understandable given the ongoing Bollywood ban in Pakistan.

The third spot has also been claimed by a 2018 release, Ahad Raza Mir and Hamza Ali Abbasi’s action-romance movie Parwaaz Hai Junoon, which also released on Eid ul Adha last year alongside Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani. The film did generate a lot of revenue, but not significant in comparison to JPNA, and is therefore at the third rank in the list.

At fourth, we have another one of Humayun Saeed’s infamous fils, this one being the 2017 hit Punjab Nahi Jaoungi, which released on Eid ul Adha. The film generated more than a whopping PKR 350 million in revenue, with Humayun Saeed being the only actor to have two films among the highest grossing ones of Pakistan.
And finally, at number five, comes Ali Zafar’s Teefa in Trouble, which released in 2018 during the elections, three weeks before Eid. Currently, it is one of the highest grossing non-holiday film releases.

Below is the complete list of the all-time top five highest grossing films in Pakistan as well as their estimated lifetime collection revenue.
