‘This is My Civic Duty’: Hadiqa Kiani on Her Flood Relief Mission

‘I am doing this as a Pakistani citizen, not as a politician, not for votes or anything else,’ the singer tweeted.

Veteran Singer Hadiqa Kiani clarified during her visit to south Punjab this week to distribute aid that there is no political agenda behind her mission to help the flood affectees.

While most Pakistani celebrities have jetted off to Toronto, Canada to attend the HUM Awards, the Boohey Barian singer is doing her civic duty to help the flood victims in Pakistan and is on a mission, rebuilding houses for three different villages — Rabbi, Chattar, and Tamboo.

The 50-year-old is also providing tents, medicines, and food to the people of Balochistan who lost everything in the recent devastating monsoon floods. She is working with contractors, doing all she can to help rebuild the homes of the flood affectees.

She recently took to social media to share the untold stories of the people from the area, including one of a rickshaw driver who had poured his blood, sweat, and tears to build his dream house, only to lose it all.

Kiani was the first Pakistani woman to be appointed as Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations in 2010.

She also urged everyone to do their part in a tweet that read:

I recently visited South Punjab to distribute and was asked what party I was representing. I want to make it clear, I am doing this as a Pakistani citizen, not as a politician, not for votes or anything else. This is my civic duty, this is YOUR civic duty. Do your part.

Hadiqa Kiani is one of the most prolific singers and songwriters of the Pakistani music industry who made a name for herself singing hit songs in Urdu, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Pashto, and even French. Fans fondly remember her for her iconic songs such as Bhit Ja Bhitai, Dupatta, Yaad Sajan Di Aai, and Iss Baar Milo.

She is a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz — one of the highest civilian awards in Pakistan — for her humanitarian work.
