This is marvelously creative!

A feat 3 years in the making, but its finally done. A Pakistani artist has created a masterpiece of a portrait that depicts Muhammad Ali Jinnah in a unique way. And the best part? He used only Re. 1 coins to finish his art.

Abid Hussain Ansari, who hails from Karachi, spent 3 years collecting 5000+ Re 1 coins to start on this piece of art. His job was made all the more hard by the fact that these Re. 1 copper coins had been discontinued since 2010.

Abid actually works as a Ceramologist at the Department of Antiques for the Sindh Govt.

The local artist had to go many places and meet many people in order to accomplish the first step of his project. Here are some of the things he did to accomplish this task:

  • collect these coins from beggars,
  • buying them off for Rs 20-200 from other people.

Once he collected enough coins (5240 to be exact!), it was time for him to compose the portrait of the father of the nation.

Take a look at how he went through the process of creating this most marvelous portrait:

Celebrated for His Work

His work featuring the Quaid-E-Azam was honored at the ‘Portrait of Quaid-E-Azam’ exhibition. The event was held at State Bank Museum of Pakistan, during December 2018.

Abid may have chosen to use any available coins instead, but the dedication and care he put in his work happen to be in a league of its own together. Certainly something that a true artist can understand. Here’s to more interesting art from Abid Hussain Ansari.
