Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager is a Pakistani Muslim. But sure, people still want to call Sanders as a ‘Jewish socialist’.
Back in early 2019, word came out that Faiz Shakir was designated as the first Muslim campaign manager to lead a presidential election campaign in US history. Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders was the first Jewish presidential candidate in US history. Sounds pretty odd right? But apparently its true.
Now we’re being reminded by Bernie Sanders again that Faiz Shakir is a Pakistani-American Muslim. To his credit, the Democratic presidential candidate doesn’t think that hiring a Pakistani Muslim Shakir might hurt his chances to become the President of the United States of America. In fact, he got candid about the people of color and women of color on his team.

“I mean we don’t hire people because they’re Pakistani or because they come – We have some wonderful woman from Saudi Arabia.”

Bernie is trying to keep it as inclusive as possible by hiring a number of Jewish, African American and Latino employees.
“We hire people because they can do the job – because they are smart, and they are hardworking and they can do their job,”
He even says that ‘I don’t care what people think’.
Hasan Minhaj pokes some fun at Sanders
Meanwhile, Indian-American Muslim comedian Hasan Minhaj tried to explain that while Bernie is Jewish, he’s also pretty ‘Muslim-ish’. There’s no Yahoodi sazish (Jewish conspiracy here right?
The Patriot Act host even laid down the points of how Bernie Sanders is ‘Muslim-ish’
- Wants to demilitarize the United States
- Doesn’t want to drone strike every brown country in the Stone Ages
- Speaks at Muslim conferences.
Bernie had a diplomatic answer for this:
“We are a big country with a whole lot of folks from different backgrounds. I’m running for president, and I think if I’m invited, I should speak to as many of those groups as I can,”
But of course, people are people. This still didn’t stop the conspiracies that this was a ploy to destroy Bernie’s political career.
