Having a solid ‘source’ and ‘citation’ is very important when trying to spread a message to others. Otherwise, chances are that your next Whatsapp forward loses all credibility. However, much like our school days, we haven’t learned our lesson. Our answer for everything is to copy/paste everything, and pretend that no one would know.
Something very similar is happening these days. In an attempt to raise awareness about the deadly coronavirus or COVID-19, people all over the internet started sharing the news of one particular girl who has contracted the disease and pleaded people to pray.
The message is understandable and very relatable, until you get a feeling of déjà vu because every one of these unfortunate ‘parents’ have the same child – a daughter. People all over the social media have been using the same picture of a girl wearing a mask and calling her their ‘only daughter’. Check it out:

It seems like a lot of people have adopted this girl. Since the girl in question is actually Hispanic, Pakistanis had no trouble using her image and passing it off as one of our own. After all, she is lightly brown.
It is kind of shameful that even at times like these, people want to get attention on social media. In their quest to get for likes, retweets and sympathetic responses from the crowd, they would use this girl for their own 5 minutes of fame. The girl is originally from a Facebook post shared by a woman named Portal Nunes.
