This Young Mechanic Repaired Bikes for Free During Karachi Rain

Are we failing our young generation?

Last week, the city of lights went dark. Torrential rains caused havoc across the city and put a huge question mark on the performance of Sindh Government as well as the Cantonment Board who is in charge of areas like DHA.

Roads turned into rivers, residential areas, and houses were severely damaged, cars were floating as if they were made out of plastic and yet again, the authorities refused to pay attention to the dilapidated drainage system of Karachi.

This Little Fellow Came Like a Knight in Shining Armour

In some areas, the water levels were high above the waist and caused great difficulty for the travelers. Vehicles easily broke down at a time where finding a mechanic who doesn’t charge much is almost an impossible task.

However, there are still people who didn’t take advantage of the situation and were there to help by all possible means.

Recently, this mechanic aka Chotu Ustaad Mechanic went viral for helping out Karachites during the heavy rain.

It all happened when a netizen shared his experience of how this young fellow (we don’t know his name yet) helped him get back to his home easily. He said that this young mechanic repaired his motorbike for free.

“I must say the only thing that makes me satisfy being a karachiite is that the citizens here try to help each other when they are in need. They help you with such sincerity that they actually win your heart. I would refer to the guy in this picture as #Chotuustaadmechanic as I don’t know his name,” he said in his Facebook post.

“For the first time ever, I have seen with my own eyes that mechanics were repairing bikes of individuals for free. I hope Allah helps such individuals.”

Things to Question

While Chotu Ustaad did a wonderful job by helping out stranded Karachites at a time of great emergency, this should also make conscientious citizens hang their heads in shame. This young fellow chose to become a mechanic instead of continuing his studies, and that points to how bad things are for the poorer segments of society.

In fact, ‘chose’ is not even a suitable word. Child labor is a common issue in Pakistan and it is sad to see how parents push their own children into work and earning their bread where in fact, they should be sent to school and receive an education.

Education is every child’s right and they should be given a chance to explore and experience what the world holds for them and then pursue their careers.
