A transgender person was harassed in the house of Allah and at the grave of a Holy Prophet in a shocking incident last week.
The transgender person cried her heart out and complained to God, asking why He created people like her the way they are.
Broadcast journalist and VOA primetime host, Rahman Bunairee, shared the details in a tweet:
Pakistan’s khwaja siras’ (transgender community) rights, gender identity, and human sanctity have been a much-debated public issue for decades. The community was legally recognized as the ‘third gender’ via a Supreme Court ruling in Pakistan in 2012.
Consequently, Pakistan is now one of 12 countries in the world that recognizes transgender identity as a huge step toward equality.
Regardless of the progressive laws defending the rights of the community, violence, and discrimination against its members persist across the country and even in other countries.
The recent event in the sacred city of Islam is the most hurtful and embarrassing for the entire Muslim nation. The ‘followers’ of the religion which forbids entertaining inequality among any caste, creed, religion, or color committed this disheartening act right in holy cities of Islam and made the creation of God question their existence.
