Facebook-owned apps — including WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram experienced a major global crash last night. Users around the world reported that all Facebook apps suffered outages.

The social media giants, however, did not elaborate on the cause and attributed the outage to unspecified “technical issues”. But since it affected all major Facebook services, it can be said that the glitch was related to the shared infrastructure.

WhatsApp users were unable to send and receive messages, while Instagram users saw error messages when they logged into their account. However, after 45 minutes, the issue was resolved. A spokesperson from Facebook said,

“A technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing some Facebook services. We resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

WhatsApp announced a few minutes before midnight that it was “back”, thanking users for their patience.

But netizens found it hilarious as the major social media platforms suffered an outage all at once. New memes were born and Twitter was in fits.

Twitteratis, for some strange reason, felt “superior” and really enjoyed making fun of Facebook users. But when the social media platforms were back in business, netizens had a great time trolling each other.

Let’s have a look.
