United by music, divided by politics.

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi was recently spotted complimenting the great Sufi vocalist Abida Parveen after attending her live concert in Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena.

He also got to meet her backstage where they posed for a photo and she sang a song for him.

Vivek Oberoi had a fanboy moment and gushed about it on his Instagram:

“It’s truly a wonderful opportunity to watch Abida jee live,” he said and added, “We’re all tremendous fans of her skill”.

“I’m simply here to witness, as everyone calls her, the living legend – it’s fantastic to see the living legend live,” the actor concluded.

Abida Parveen, who is popularly known as the Queen of Sufi Music, has a global fan following and has performed  at sold-out venues all over the world, including India.

Her recital of the kalaams is well-known and is a source of pride for Pakistanis. She describes her live performances as a sort of meditation and worship of God, and said, “Wherever you read the kalaam of the saints and of those elated figures who have devoted their lives to Allah, that place, whether it’s a studio or an intimate gathering, turns into something sacred, like a dargah”.
