‘Wednesday’ Might Not Return For Season 2 on Netflix

Here’s why.

According to the reports after the record-breaking success Netflix series, Wednesday, may not return to the streaming platform for a second season because its production company, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), just signed a major deal with another streaming service.

According to a report by Deadline, MGM recently closed an $8.5 billion merger, which means the rights to the Tim Burton-led series may go to Amazon. This also means that season two could potentially premiere on Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video.

As per reports, Amazon at the time of signing the deal stated it is not planning to make all MGM content exclusive to Prime Video, so it’s possible that Netflix may attempt to strike a deal to keep the dark comedy on their platform.

Or Amazon can cancel its deal with Netflix and release the upcoming seasons on its service, Prime Video. And MGM productions can also pull some strings and sever its deal with Amazon, or ask for more money, but nothing can be certain unless an official statement is released by any of the parties.

Dark comedy Wednesday dethroned Stranger Things as Netflix’s most-watched series in the world. The Addams Family spin-off broke the record for the most viewed English-language series.

The Jenna Ortega starrer surpassed the previous record and gained the No. 1 spot for the week of November 21 – November 27, 2022, with 341.23 million hours viewed all around the globe.

The show centers around Wednesday Addams, a 16-year-old goth girl who is enrolled in a boarding school, Nevermore Academy, where she tries to master her psychic abilities to solve a bizarre murder mystery that took place two decades ago.
